Ann Arbor, MI- The class of 2017 had a goal at the start of the
2016-17 school year: leave their mark on the team and make a lasting impact for the future generations of Michigan rugby players.
With Giving Blueday just around the corner, the 11 seniors have created a new pledge centered around the theme of the day called “The Senior Giveback Pledge”. The goal of this initiative will have each senior pledge to donate $25 annually for the next 3 years. While this may seem like a small sum, the driving focus of this campaign is not a dollar amount but rather the spirit and commitment to giving back to the team.
As we build-up to Giving Blueday we will celebrate each of these seniors and highlight how donations have helped them and why they are excited to give back.
Here is Today’s senior Albert Foo!

Albert is a local Ann Arbor product who started his rugby career with the Washtenaw Rugby Club, an Ann Arbor based high school team. During his time with Michigan Rugby Foo has served the club in many capacities, both on the field and in a leadership role. One role he is particularly proud of was his two year appointment as the merchandising director which allowed him to apply his art and design major to the design of fan wear, on-field kit, and other unique items that celebrated the team. On the field, he has helped lead the charge on game day by contributing to the top 23 side for the past 3 years and took great pride in coming off the bench to help our strong academy side this past Fall.
We asked each senior who pledged to this program two questions; “How have donations impacted your time with the team?” and “Why is it important for you to give back to your club?”
Here are Albert’s responses:
How have donations impacted your time with the team?
– Game transportation
– Field services
– Equipment
– Administrative help
– Publicity
Why is it important for you to give back to the team?
“To not only provide funds for the following years but to be a role model for the younger players to understand what make this club so great – self-run. For where we don’t need the university to hold our hand our to spoon feed us funds, we run this club. Everything from organizing merchandise to donating thousands of dollars to the club that has made your college years so memorable.”
Thank you to Albert for making the pledge to continue his support of the team after he finishes his academic career here!
